Movie Talks: A Walk to Remember

It has been a while since my last writing here. So, this time, I'm going to review a movie.
This was an old romantic drama movie which was taken in the year 2002. All of you probably have watched this movie before, because the movie is very popular - even until now. The movie we are about to discuss is A Walk to Remember, which is also one of my favorite movies, so that is why I decided to review this one.

--------------------------------------

The movie is adapted from the same-titled novel by Nicholas Sparks. It was directed by Adam Shankman and produced by Warner Bros Studio. It tells a story of a bad yet popular guy at school, Landon Carter (Shane West), who falls in love with an ambitious, smart, dedicated, and kind-hearted girl, Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore) who is also a priest’s daughter. It all starts when Landon and his friends play a prank that goes wrong which causes one of them must be hospitalized. Landon, as the one who has to be responsible for it, is forced to participate in after-school community service activities as a punishment, which includes starring as a lead actor in the school play. Jamie Sullivan, the nice girl, also participates in it. When Landon decides to take his punishment seriously, he starts to ask Jamie for help and spends a lot of time with her. But then, he starts to develop a strong feeling for her, something that he never expect before. Jamie also finds herself irrevocably in love with him, even though they have nothing in common at all. The two then start a relationship and try so hard to deal with Jamie's father who doesn't agree with their relationship and also with Landon's old popular friends who keep on bullying Jamie. But it is not all yet, when Landon finds out a heart-breaking secret about Jamie, their relationship is on the test. It makes them realize the true meaning of love.

The movie itself is sweet and inspiring because it shows a young-love story that fits teenagers, especially teenagers in the U.S. Why is it inspiring? Because the more I see through this movie, the more I realize that we cannot really see a person only by what they look from the outside. It might be cliché because in reality we always see someone from the outside. But not having a pre judgemental thoughts has never been wrong, we need to consider what kind of people they are on the inside. Jamie looks like a nerd, she is not a person who is easy to socialize with others, but nobody knows what problem she has been through. So, I guess before we get to know someone well, it is better for us not to judge them only by what our eyes want to see. Another message that the movie gives is it makes us realize that we should appreciate people we love by showing them love while they live. Just like what Landon did to Jamie.

I love the movie because it is not vulgar and there are many positive messages in it. The moral message that we can take from this movie is love itself. Love can change someone’s characteristics, well it actually depends on how you believe it. But, I do believe that love works in so many ways to change a person from bad to better. In the movie, Landon changes, from a bad guy to a better guy after he knows what kind of girl Jamie is. We cannot expect a fast-changing phase from a person in the real life, it needs to process. But the most important thing is to give a chance to ourselves and also to the person we love to be better. I think that is how love will work.

Okay everyone, before my writing comes to an end, I'm going to put one of my favorite quotes from this movie.

“Knowing there's one thing I still haven't told you: I now believe, by the way, that miracles can happen.” ― Nicholas Sparks

Curious about their love story?

Well, go watch the movie by yourself! :)
